FAQs for Teachers
Some Kindergarten teachers ask: Some children in my class have very little language. How can parents help?
My answer: Encourage parents to read to their children frequently. Play some language games near the end of the day when parents are watching and suggest they play again at home.
Some Pre-school teachers ask: What are the best ways to develop early pe-literacy skills?
My answer:
Begin with nursery rhymes, conversations about interesting activities, storytelling and reading quality children's literature books to them.
Encourage them to use their words, copy their names and identify the first letter of their name.
Some School teachers ask:
There are several children in my class who are
already falling behind in reading. What can I do?
My answer:
Plan your day to give them some extra literacy time. Make sure they are phonemically aware, know a few letters of the alphabet and teach them to blend those letters into words and read them to you. You can create simple texts of those words and encourage the children to read them to their parents at home. This is just a start. More ideas are in my next book.
